Flock vs Firefox

I hadn’t  paid any attention to the Flock web browser up until now. I was an avid Firefox fan and didn’t see any need to look for flock-1alternatives.Flock is a web browser built on Mozilla’s Firefox codebase that specializes in providing social networking and Web 2.0 facilities built into its user interface.

Intro by the Flock team-
“We started Flock to build tools that firefoxempower people and smooth out some of the more hairy parts of living and working online. As it is, we live and breathe this stuff everyday and wanted better tools to do the things that we love doing online.”

I loved Google Chrome but it’s unavailability of addons turned me back to Firefox. However, I’ve just installed flock, and it is mind boggling how many social networking tools they have integrated right into the browser itself.

Flock 2.0 integrates social networking and media services including MySpace,Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, Blogger, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, etc.Notably, when logging into any of the supported social services, Flock can track updates from friends: profiles, uploaded photos, and more.

Other features include:

  • native sharing of text, links, photos and videos;
  • a “Media Bar” showing preview of online videos and photos as well as subscription to photo and video feeds;
  • a feed reader supporting Atom, RSS and Media RSS feeds;
  • a blog editor and reader, allowing direct posting into any designated blog;
  • a web-mail component allowing users to check supported web-based email off site, compose new messages, and drag-and-drop pictures and videos from the “Media Bar” or webclipboard into a new email message;
  • support for third-party add-ons, including a number of Firefox extensions.My favorite addon for firefox,Stumbleupon also works.To view my Stumbleupon page,click here.
  • The Flock media bar has much better functionality than “All in one sidebar” addon in Firefox.

If you’re someone who uses Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Del.icio.us,Youtube a lot and you blog a lot too,and also upload photos a lot,then Flock is the most powerful browser that lets you do a lot of these things using built-in functionality without having to add all the plug-ins.You can tweak your Firefox work to the same functionality but that will slow Firefox down.

So if you are into social networking,you will love Flock,if you want fast uninterrupted browsing,try Chrome,and if you are a Firefox fanatic,then still try Flock.If you are hooked to Internet Explorer,then I pity you.Flock is built on Firefox’s database,so all thanks to Mozilla for developing Firefox.My only question is, how will development efforts for Flock influence development efforts for Firefox?

  3. Flock is for no doubt the most convinient browser to use, and much better than firefox anyday. The only reason its not survived on top of the browser war for long is that it uses a comparitively large amount of system memory. This left apart, its no doubt the best 🙂
